Next steps for Admission

1. Request transcripts from all previous institutions.
2. Send official English proficiency scores and/or meet English proficiency requirements.

All applicants must provide proof of English proficiency for the application process. Please note that Canadian applicants, excluding the province of Quebec, will not be required to submit an official English language proficiency exam.

Please note that all courses in the Program are delivered in English, and students are required to submit all coursework, both written and oral assignments, in English.

The following English proficiency tests and scores will be considered for the application process:

TOEFL score of 79 Internet-based & 550 paper-based
- UMPI’s institutional code is 3008.
TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5

Pearson Test of English score of 53
- Results can be retrieved after the Admissions team has been provided with your score report code.
Duolingo English Test score of 105
- Results can be sent directly within Duolingo by selecting the “University of Maine” option.
Cambridge C1 Advanced

Test scores must be taken in the past two years (from the time of your application) and must be sent directly by the testing agency. Scores received from students cannot be accepted.

An English proficiency test waiver may be considered for the application process if one of the following options is met:

Your high school transcript clearly states that English is the language of instruction for all subjects.
You have earned one of the following from an institution located within the U.S., Canada, England, Australia, or New Zealand, where English is the primary language of instruction and assessment:
- Associate's, Bachelor's, or Graduate degree from an accredited institution.
- 60 undergraduate or 12 graduate semester credits from an accredited institution.
English is your first or primary language, and you reside in one of the following countries. Verification in the form of a government-issued identification card will be required. IDs can be sent to edocs@maine.edu.

At UMPI, we require all international educational documents to be submitted through a credential evaluation report for all transcripts. This evaluation report will translate your grades into US equivalencies. Applicants are responsible for any fees required by an evaluation service.

Please note: All evaluations must be completed by an evaluation service that is endorsed by NACES or AICE and must include a GPA. Official transcripts must be sent by the institution. Transcripts submitted by students will be unofficial and cannot be used for admissions decisions.
